We are committed
to, and have responsibility for, providing a quality self-defense education. Our
programs have been proven to reduce stress, increase fitness, and improve
self-confidence. At the Aikido Academy
students will find a complete
Japanese system of self-defense consisting of throws, joint- locks, nerve
pressure points, grappling and strikes.
The
paradox of Aikido training is that while remaining a very potent style of
combat, it stresses non-violence. Knowledge and skill in Aikido builds
self-confidence and self-esteem without causing egotistical behavior. This calm
proficiency seems to emanate from you. It has a quieting effect on your
personality and on those around you. Because you are not provocative,
others are not either. A less selfish, more harmonious and balanced
pattern of behavior develops. There is also an emphasis on positive
thinking and concentration of energy. Your total being (mind, body, and
spirit) is made to work in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
This focus on total mind/body coordination allows us to overcome size, age and
strength limitations. It also is a major factor in reducing stress
particularly when under attack. We Aikido practitioners are seeking
self-improvement. You have to make the journey yourself to understand what
we do.

AIKIDO
ACADEMY OF SELF-DEFENSE SPECIALTY CLASSES
Grappling
Program
By employing techniques from Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Nihon Goshin Aikido and
Wrestling, our nationally certified instructors have created a grappling program
for all martial artists. This is
not for competition. We train
students what to do if the fight goes to the ground where biting, hair pulls,
eye gauges, and groin attacks are expected.
This class will give students the skills they need to handle such combat
situations.
Kubotan
(self-defense key chain)
Our
Chief Instructors offer an efficient, effective, and easy to learn self-defense
course utilizing the Kubotan (self-defense key chain). This
course is for anyone who wants to learn realistic personal protection
techniques. The Kubotan is a simple, legal, and effective tool easily used for
self-defense. Because the Kubotan is a key chain it is always close and easily
accessible.
Ukemi
(Falls and Rolls) Class
All
new students are hesitant when it comes to learning how to fall and roll
properly. However, learning how to
fall and roll correctly, and safely is important for successful training in the art of Aikido.
Therefore, we have a regularly scheduled falling and rolling class for new and current
members.
Yudansha
(Black Belt) preparatory class
This
class is offered to students who have made the commitment to become Yudansha
(black belts) and instructors in the art of Nihon Goshin Aikido.
Students accepted into this course are educated in advanced techniques
such as weapons defense, grappling and ground fighting, joint locking, advanced
throws, multiple attacker defense, and more.
Students are accepted into this course by Chief Instructor invitation.
