At the Aikido Academy, we are committed to providing students with a quality self-defense education. Our programs have been proven to reduce stress, increase fitness, and improve self-confidence. At the Aikido Academy, students will find a complete system of self-defense consisting of throws, joint- locks, nerve pressure points, grappling and strikes.
Aikido is categorized under the umbrella of grappling arts and derives from the martial art of Daito-Ryu Aiki Jiu-Jitsu. Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. The Aikido practitioner leads and re-directs the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws, joint-locks, pins and submissions. The term "aiki" refers to the martial arts principle or tactic of blending with an attacker's movements for the purpose of controlling their actions with minimal effort. The specific techniques for attack include both strikes and grabs; the techniques for defense consist of throws and pins. After the basic techniques are learned, students study freestyle defense against single and multiple opponents, and in certain styles, sparring and grappling.

Our Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Level 1 Certified Instructor provides students with a practical, street-effective grappling program. This is not for competition. We train students what to do if the fight goes to the ground where eye gouges, hair pulls, weapons, multiple attackers, and groin attacks are expected. This class will give students the skills they need to handle such combat situations.

Our Chief Instructors offer an efficient, effective, and easy to learn self-defense course utilizing a Realistic-Effective-Accurate-Learning model and the Kubotan (self-defense key chain). This course is for anyone who wants to learn realistic personal protection techniques. The R.E.A.L. Course relies on actual instructor lead attack scenarios to provide the student with practical training. The Kubotan is a simple, legal, and effective tool easily used for self-defense. Because the Kubotan is a key chain it is always close and easily accessible.

All new students are hesitant when it comes to learning how to fall and roll properly. However, learning how to fall and roll correctly, and safely is important for successful training in the art of Aikido. Therefore, we have a regularly scheduled falling and rolling class for new and current members.
